Casey Kasem Should Be Fed and Hydrated, Says Judge, As Family Prepares End of Life Measures

Casey Kasem is reported to be in critical condition and the radio icon's family is getting ready to say goodbye. Kasem's family began to implement medical end-of-life measures. But a judge ordered them not to stop treatment and sets new court date.

On Monday, A Los Angeles judge ordered doctors to resume water, nutrition and medication infusions for "Top 40" radio host Casey Kasem while a court-appointed attorney evaluates his health after Kasem's daughter moved to implement end of life measures..

Casey Kasem was reportedly in critical condition with an infected bedsore at a Washington state hospital. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Daniel S. Murphy ruled that Casey Kasem should receive the treatments while an attorney appointed by the judge meets with Kasem and his doctors.

Casey Kasem's wife of 34 years, Jean Kasem, told the court the she supported Murphy's ruling and will ask to be restored as Kasem's caretaker.

Kasem's family is preparing to say goodbye to the top 40 radio legend while Kasem's daughter and wife headed to court to clear up a legal dispute over his care.

According to court documents obtained by The Times, Kerri Kasem has been moving to implement end-of-life measures.

As the court battle around Casey's medical care rages. Kasem's health is declining, and his family is preparing to say goodbye.

Kerry Kasem's attorney Troy Martin said  the judge's ruling is likely to cause Kasem more pain.

Danny Deraney, a spokesman for Kerri Kasem, Casey's daughter, said Kasem "won't be with us much longer."

Casey's son, Mike Kasem, traveled from Singapore. Kasem's brother flew in from Detroit. Kasem suffers from Lewy body dementia, which has no cure.

Kasem's Lewy body dementia was misdiagnosed as Parkinson's or Alzheimer's disease. Lewy body dementia afflicts 1.3 million Americans. It is a progressive brain disorder in which Lewy bodies, which are abnormal deposits of a protein called alpha-synuclein, build up in areas of the brain that regulate behavior, cognition, and movement.

Casey Kasem is best known as the host of "American Top 40." He also hosted "Casey's Top 40" from 1989 to 1998 and was the voice of Shaggy on "Scooby Doo." DJ Casey Kasem, 82, is reportedly worth $80 million.

The L.A. judge set another hearing for Friday to receive an update on Kasem's health.
