‘True Detective’ Season 2 Rumors: Jessica Chastain And All Cast Rumors Debunked! Breakthrough HBO Show Will End At Three Seasons!

"True Detective" was one of the best shows this year. With just eight episodes, it left its fans wanting for more. But 'more' would not be the same, as the series creator Nic Pizzolatto shares.

Pizzolatto writes every episode himself and his comments also reflected the strain of his commitment. Speaking at the Banff World Media Festival (excerpts from Grantland):

On the pressure of working on a miniseries: "Every season, I'm essentially creating a brand new TV show. It can't have any growing pains like a regular first season. If it works it has to work right out of the box. That's incredibly exhausting. I mean, the job is exhausting to begin with, but it's doubly exhausting and I'm writing every episode. I can't imagine I would do this more than three years. I mean, I'd like to have a regular TV show. We'll have some fixed sets, regular actors and I could bring in people to help and I don't have to be there every second. It'd be great."

While he seems to be complaining, his comments were accurate. The show is a critical success, primarily because of its A-list cast. It might not be possible to garner a long term commitment from actors like Matthew McConaughey specially after the Oscar win. Thus, the short length of the series is probably its greatest strength.

Speaking of the cast, Pizzolatto addresses the wild casting rumors:

"Literally, not a single rumor about casting that has been printed anywhere has any truth to it whatsoever. There's me and two other guys and they don't even know what I'm doing ... We haven't cast anybody. I have a secret list and that's it."

That puts the nail on the coffin for Jessica Chastain fans.

But there was the statement of having female detectives:  "Again, it's a rumour with no basis in fact. There is a strong [lead] female character. But I wouldn't say it is female-led or anything like that." Meaning we're Jon Snow; we know nothing."

That was quite a bummer. But in the era of the internet and social media, rumors can get out of hand and statements can easily be taken out of context. That was something Pizzolatto called out. Despite the admiration for his series, he would still want everything to be authentic.
