Psy's “HANGOVER” MV Exceeds 40 Million Views in Less Than 74 Hours

"Hangover" is officially following in the footsteps of its predecessors "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman."

Psy's music video for his new single "Hangover" surpassed 40 million views on YouTube in less than 74 hours since its release.

The 5-minute clip was released on June 9 and currently stands at 40,955,154 views and has already made it to No. 1 on worldwide weekly charts.

The outrageous video has been getting praise left and right, as Billboard called the "hilarious" video "entertaining." TIME magazine claimed that the music video was "art" and that it's "5-minutes well spent," for those who choose to watch the MV.

Both Psy and Snoop Dogg wrote the lyrics for "Hangover" while Yoo Gun Hyung, who produced "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman" composed the music for the song.

Psy chose to go with a different director for "Hangover," rather than get the help of his previous directors for "Gangnam Style" and "Gentleman."

"I co-directed this video so technically it's the same director, but my co-director [Cha Eun-taek] was different from that of 'Gangnam Style' and 'Gentleman' [co-directed by Cho Soo-hyun] because the type of the song is different - electronic dance music versus 8o8 hip hop - and I also wanted my fans to experience something different," explained Psy during his interview with CNN.

For those who have yet to watch the video, "Hangover" features karaoke, bathhouses and soju shots, basically showing the world the step-by-step process of partying in Korea.

In the music video, Psy takes rapper Snook Dogg on a drinking tour of Incheon, South Korea where they filmed 20 scenes in 10 locations in 18 hours, according to the publication Kansas City.

The inspiration for "Hangover" clearly came naturally to Psy, who revealed to Billboard, "Yes, I'm a heavy drinker. I can honestly say (I'm hungover) half of the year."

Despite the positive reviews that Psy has been receiving for "Hangover," several nationalistic web commentators reportedly complained that the Korean superstar's depiction of Korea drinking culture was "garish, over the top, and reflected poorly on the country's global image," according to the Global Post.
