Kim Jong Guk States, 'I Was Surprised At Running Man's Popularity'

"Running Man" is one of Hallyu's biggest entertainment programs. Despite its low TV ratings in the beginning of the show, "Running Man"'s popularity has soared since. The program has now established itself as Korea's main weekend TV program and have expanded its fan base all over the world beyond Asia.

Kim Jong Guk attended the Korean-Chinese Drama OST Concert held in Beijing on June 14. Drawing the loudest applause from Chinese fans, he stated that the last time he was in China was on a "Running Man" tour last year. He stated: "I had Chinese fans thanks to "X-Man," but I was still surprised at how many Chinese fans I had. I used to be known as a singer, but now they think of me as a show program celebrity."

He further stated that he is planning on promoting music in China: "I want to showcase good music here, because I would have to start fresh here. I feel bad because I haven't really met Chinese fans despite the love they give me."

He added, "Next year is the 20th anniversary of my debut. I know many people think of me more of a TV celebrity than a singer, and I think this is a great opportunity for me to prove myself as a musician. I know my popularity has increased, but I don't think that's because of anything I've done, but because of "Running Man"'s popularity."

Kim Jong Guk also stated that he is currently learning Chinese: "I'm starting to learn simple dialogue. I've been communicating with Chinese staff in English so far, because Chinese is so difficult to learn."

Meanwhile, Kim Jong Guk will return to Korea and continue his appearance on "Running Man."
