For decades, dramas filled the TV screens of most homes from Monday through Sunday in Korea. The Republic of Korea has often been referred to as the 'Republic of Dramas' because of its drama culture. Recently however, the drama craze in Korea has been heating up as top idol K-Pop stars began appearing in dramas.

For example, the weekend rival dramas, "A Gentleman's Dignity" and "Time Slip Dr. Jin" are starred by idol stars, Lee Jong Hyun of CNBLUE and Jaejoong of JYJ, respectively. Both dramas are aired at 10 P.M. on Saturdays and Sundays and it has become a battle of MBC and SBS TV stations. 

MBC's "Time Slip Dr. Jin" features top actors like Song Seung Hun, Park Min Young, Lee Bum Soo and JYJ's Jaejoong and SBS "A Gentleman's Dignity" also featured top stars like Jang Dong Gun, Kim Ha Neul, Kim Min Jong, Kim Soo Ro, Lee Jong Hyuk and Lee Jong Hyun. 

Both dramas are at a blockbuster level even from looking at the production crew. "A Gentleman's Dignity" is a production created by a collaboration of director Shin Woo Cheul and writer Kim Eun Sook who have previously worked on the dramas "Lovers" and "On Air." On the other hand, "Time Slip Dr. Jin" is based on the famous Japanese cartoon "Murakami Motoka" and is directed by Han Hee and edited by the writer Han Ji Hoon. 

The main stars in both dramas are, of course, beyond impressive. "A Gentleman's Dignity" is the drama that actor Jang Dong Gun decided to make his comeback in after leaving the drama scene for 12 years. In addition, highly respected actors Kim Min Jong, Kim Soo Ro, Lee Jong Hyuk and top female actress Kim Ha Neul definitely add to the exceptional qualiy of the drama; not to mention new faces like Lee Jong Hyun of CNBLUE who is bringing in younger as well as foreign viewers.

"Time Slip Dr. Jin" on the other hand also features highly respected actors Song Seung Hun and Lee Bum Soo. In addition, the hottest actors in their 20's, Park Min Young and JYJ's Jaejoong are definitely one of the major factors in the drama's popularity.

Even the themes of the two dramas are eye-catching. "A Gentleman's Dignity" features a story about four unmarried men and their cute dating life and "Time Slip Dr. Jin" features a story about a doctor who gets time warped back to the Chosun Dynasty. The viewing rate for "A Gentleman's Dignity" is higher at the moment, but the popularity as well as the media coverage of the two dramas are very similar.

In the end, the viewers are faced with a happy diemma: Is it "A Gentleman's Dignity" or "Time Slip Dr. Jin?"
