WINNER To Make Official Debut On August 1

YG Entertainment's rookie group, WINNER, is about to win over the hearts of K-pop fans with their official debut on August 1.

The group posted "WINNER TEASER MOVIE #6" on July 6, successfully wrapping "WINNER WEEK," which was used to promote the group through daily individual and group teasers.

The music video series for the group was produced by director Shin Dong Geul, who produced Taeyang's album, "Rise" and Akdong Musician's "Melted."

Three weeks of promotion events, "TEST WEEK," "NEW YORK WEEK" and "WINNER WEEK," were held to keep fans' expectations at an all-time high in lieu of the boy group's debut.

The members of WINNER were picked through the results of the survival TV show "YG's Win: Who is Next?," which aired from August to October 2013. The team of winners from the show, which consists of Kang Seung-yoon, Song Min-ho, Nam Tae-hyun, Kim Jin-woo and Lee Seung-hoon, were given the opportunity to debut under the name WINNER, according to the Korea Herald.

WINNER was soon on their way to becoming "idol" status while ebing featured on their reality program, titled "WINNER TV," and opening for Big Bang's tour in Japan.

YG Entertainment has been doing a consistent job promoting the upcoming rookie group, releasing ten sets of photos in mid-June with the members posing together and individually in New York City.

The members of WINNER recently sat down for an interview with Noisey, a music publication for VICE, to share their experience in the Big Apple as well as why fans should be looking forward to their debut.

"We came here - it's been about a week - to shoot our first album jacket cover. We've been shooting from early morning to night, and all around different locations, Central Park, Soho. New York City is so beautiful - like, we don't even have to do much, and the pictures turn out great," stated Kang Seungyoon.

Kang also spoke about what makes WINNER different from the long list of male K-pop groups out there.

"We all participate in producing, working with the songs, and we really put it out there for the group to decide, say, if a song is one we want to release. We incorporate our honest feelings and thoughts - the depth of it [is different] if someone else makes your song for you, versus being involved yourself as a writer," stated Kang.

He added, "You can really relay that message, and people around your age, or people who share the same kind of emotions or feelings - whatever they're going through, they can really gain from that, and feel encouragement from that. So, what makes us different might be the fact that we've been producing songs, writing songs, making music. We've been putting ourselves into it."
