Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 2014 Movie Cast: Original Cast Members Staying Away From Reboot Because Of The Infamous ‘Curse’ – See List Here

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie 2014 reboot is reportedly in the works! Film studio Lionsgate, the home of the highly successful films Hunger Games and Divergent, has announced its plans on working on the movie with the original creator, Haim Saban.

Lionsgate revealed its plans for the 1990's children's classic:

"With an extensive and extremely devoted worldwide fan base as well as a deep and detailed mythology, the Power Rangers are primed for the big screen."

The film studio added that movie will re-visualize the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers "a group of high school kids who are infused with unique and cool super powers but must harness and use those powers as a team if they have any hope of saving the world."

Despite the ongoing trend about reboots and sequels of all time favorite classics, it's quite a risk for Lionsgate to pursue with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie 2014 reboot knowing that the original film doesn't have a proven track record on the big screen.

"Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie" on 1995 hardly made it to the box office with $66 million earnings worldwide; while the follow-up film "Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie" was a much bigger flop with just $9.6 million worldwide.

In an interview conducted by Yahoo Movies through a phone call, David Yost, who gained the most success as Billy Cranston (the Blue Ranger) expresses his excitement about the planned film with Lionsgate. "They obviously have a proven track record. And I will be very excited to see what they do with the franchise."

However with the infamous "Power Rangers Curse," where several of the cast members suffered ill fates it may be not a good idea for the reboot to pursue.

  • Skylar Deleon, Roger in the original series episode, was charged with murder for the death of Long beach residents Tom and Jackie Hawks. Convicted and sentenced to death in April 2009.
  • Eric Frank, appeared as David Trueheart in "Power Rangers Zeo" and also the brother of series regular Jason David Frank, died of a heart illness at the age of 29 in April 2011.
  • Richard Genelle, known as Ernie, the owner of the Youth Center and advisor to the Power Rangers, died of a heart attack at the age of 47 in 2008.
  • Bob Manahan, Zordon, the Power Rangers' mentor, also died of a heart attack at the age of 44 in June 2000
  • Thuy Thang, known as Trini Kwan (the Yellow Ranger), died from a car crash at the age of 27 in Sept. 2001.

Nevertheless, Billy Cranston seems not be bothered by the "curse" saying:

"I've never heard there's a curse," Yost told Yahoo. "But obviously anyone who's stepping into the role of a Power Ranger - I just hope that they realize how exciting that is and the impact they will have on many people's lives throughout the world and do their best to portray a good superhero."

What do you think Kpopstarz readers, will a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie 2014 reboot a Yay or a Nay?
