Washington Redskins Blogger Ben Tribbett Quits When His Racist Twitter Posts Resurfaced: Blogger Hired To Defend Racism Turns Out To Be Racist Himself

Internet is the place for ironic mishaps. Blogger Ben Tribbett announced his resignation from Washington Redskins, possibly due the racist Twitter posts he made four years ago. The ironic part is that Ben Tribbett was hired by the Washington Redskins to defend for the racially-charged name. So a racist was hired to defend racism. Classic.

Ben Tribbett made a name for himself by blogging about political matters on his blog, "Not Larry Sabato". According to his Huffington Post profile, "prior to blogging Ben worked on over 25 different federal, state and local campaigns".

You would think that a guy like that would be politically correct.

In December 2010, he released a series of posts on Twitter that revealed his racist tendencies, especially towards Native Americans. He wrote:

"An older native american guy just accused me of cheating and pulled some stuff out of his pocket to put some kind of spell on me. Epic.

"100 into 500. #cursefail https://plixi.com/p/64343315

"Just took Chief for his last 300. I'd call it a scalping but that seems uncalled for."

Looking at his old tweets that associated an "older native american guy" with curses and scalping, one would think that he would be the perfect candidate for defending a sport team's name like Washington Redskins.

His Twitter profile reads, "Working with the @Redskins and have a lot of #RedskinsPride". But he decided to throw in the towel with Washington Redskins to hide from the massive hate hurling towards him via Twitter-sphere.

"Obv. this issue with Redskins is one where I don't see eye to eye with some friends. I just don't agree with the attacks on the team name.

"I don't want to be a distraction to the team as the political attacks have shifted towards being personal towards me.

"So I'm going to send in my resignation to the Redskins. Hopefully that allows debate to move back to where it should be."

He ended his Twitter rant with:

But it looks like Ben Tribbett doesn't mind all this personal attention that he has been getting. So far he has retweeted eight hate tweets directed at him. He is a blogger, after all. His bread and butter is all in publicity. And there is no such thing as bad publicity.
