China Times Claims Girls' Generation Beat Out 2NE1 In Earnings For First Half Of 2014

According to the Chinese publication China Times, Forbes Korea has released the earnings report for major Korean girl groups, and Girls' Generation and 2NE1 are at the top.

As translated by YGLadies, Girls' Generation garnered the most earnings with an estimated $28.3 million, closely followed by 2NE1 with $26.7 million. Third place went to T-ara, with $23 million.

However, the earnings report allegedly stated that the nine members of Girls' Generation only received $3.2 million per member, while the four ladies of 2NE1 received $6.7 million individually.

Some readers, however, question the validity of this report.

"Honestly, I think this article isn't accurate," commented LipSmack on YGLadies. "The writer from China Times seems to have taken a circulated list of income that a fan made up and passed it off as actual news."

"The figures don't make sense, especially for T-ara, who hasn't even made a group comeback this year and aren't on tour like 2NE1 & Girls' Generation."

"The Chinese media are the same people who reported that Yoona and Psy were apparently dating," wrote To Be Honest on July 9. "That's not exactly reliable. It doesn't really make that much sense, but I'm sure they are still raking in a ton of money."

In February, Girls' Generation and 2NE1 became each other's biggest competition by releasing their comeback albums within days of each other. Labeled as the two biggest girl groups in K-pop, publications like Billboard highlighted their respective comebacks with "Mr.Mr." and "Crush" to gauge who will come out on top.

2NE1 is currently taking their "All or Nothing" through Japan. Meanwhile, Girls' Generation will released their first greatest hits album in Japan titled "The Best" on July 23.
