Nick Kyrgios Splits With Wimbledon Tennis Coach Simon Rea To Be Closer To Girlfriend? Greek-Australian Tennis Genius Wants To Train In Canberra

Nick Kyrgios, the daring 19-year-old who sent Rafael Nadal home at the fourth round of Wimbledon, made an announcement that he has split with coach Simon Rea. On his website, the Greek-Australian cited wanting to be more at home in Canberra the reason to part ways with the Melbourne-based coach. We can’t help but wonder, does Nick Kyrgios have a girlfriend back home?

Nick Kyrgios announced on Twitter on July 11 that he has officially changed his tennis coach (but nothing about his girlfriend).

In his statement, Nick Kyrgios wrote “Josh Eagle will be overseeing my tennis as my coach both on the road and in Australia, with Todd Larkham running things from Canberra although I hope I can travel with them both at key events.

“My desire to be at home more in Canberra, when I am not at tournaments has driven me to make the decision for change within my team.”

The Greek-Australian (and Malaysian!) has said during his interviews post-Wimbledon he wanted to be home more. Yes, we get it that his family is supportive and that his mom knew that he was going to beat Nadal before anyone else did. But let’s face it. Nick Kyrgios probably has a girlfriend in Canberra that he wants to pursue. He is a 19-year-old boy after all.

Other media sources like Daily Mail has blown this split out of proportion (as usual) and stated that Nick has parted ways with the coach that helped him beat Nadal. However, the 19-year-old Greek-Australian tennis genius begs to differ.

“This decision is something I have made myself and was decided and conversed to everyone prior to the French Open and in light of my recent success it is obviously not a decision I have taken lightly.”

Since he has only recently been thrust into the limelight, Nick Kyrgios has been very careful about sharing his personal details, including any info about his potential girlfriend. We say give it time.

Nick Kyrgios’ next match will be the Toronto ATP 1000 event in early August. He is resting to recover from his hip injury that he sustained from Wimbledon.
