Queen And Adam Lambert Tour 2014: ‘American Idol’ Alum Did Freddie Mercury Proud? Posthumous Duets Highlight The Show

The Queen and Adam Lambert Tour 2014 continues to impress fans-even the die-hard Freddie Mercury followers-as the "American Idol" alum reportedly did the rock icon proud. The posthumous duets between the original and the predecessor are one of the show's highlights.

Reviewer Brad Wheeler of The Globe And Mail wrote that the Queen and Adam Lambert Tour "gave an extravagant, high-energy, old-fashioned rock show to a sold-out, whipped-up Air Canada Centre audience on Sunday."

He said that Adam Lambert might not possess the richness of Freddie Mercury's voice, but he does possess some of his swagger "and the agile tenor didn't miss a note all night, swooping easily up to high places when required."

Rebecca Tucker of Canada's National Post commented that Adam Lambert "is a talented vocalist with impressive range, deeply powerful pipes and a taste for the flamboyant not unlike Mercury's."

"He did the songs justice, adding his particular brand of vocal flair to [Brian] May and [Robert] Taylor's impeccable musicianship," she wrote.

She said that the Queen and Adam Lambert tour 2014 "fumbled" the song "Under Pressure" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" a little bit, but other than that "the performance was tight, the setlist was an expertly crafted mix of glam-rock bombast and down-tempo sentimentalism and the staging itself was old-school rock and roll decadence, dry ice and all."

Meanwhile, the Toronto Star's Nick Krewen was not impressed as he wrote that Freddie Mercury ended up overshadowing Adam Lambert and Queen Tour in the five-minute vintage video footage shown on screen than the live show on the floor.

"To be fair, Mercury's magic spoke more about his ownership of the material than to Lambert's shortcomings: for just over 21 years, he was the face and voice of Queen, one of rock's most iconic groups," he wrote.
