LISTEN: Nick Jonas New Song 2014 Released, Former Jonas Brothers’ Youngest Member Breaks The ‘Chains,’ Racy Music Video Expected Soon

Former Jonas Brother's singer and drummer, Nick Jonas, has a treat in store for fans with his new single release!

"Chains" is the first taste of new music we've received from Nick Jonas' upcoming untitled solo debut album, which is set to be released later this year via Island Def Jam Records. A distinct departure from past releases of both the Jonas Brothers and Nick Jonas & The Administration, "Chains" is a relaxed yet chilling, R&B pop number that combines sultry urban beats, ambient noise and Jonas' emotional vocals.

"Tryna break the chains, but the chains only break me," Nick croons over the bass-heavy beat.

"Everyone has their own chains, in life and in love, that bind them and this song embodies that feeling," explained Nick to Complex. "I'm excited to be back to share this song with the world."

Produced by Jason Evigan (Jason Derulo, Demi Lovato, and Fifth Harmony), "Chains" recreates a winning hit radio formula to make it a catchy, groovy, and deeply personal song.

A source told Page Six, "'Chains' is a metaphor for what he has been feeling all these years." The source continued, "Nick has spent years experiencing a burden that's hard to explain. He's not blaming anyone for it; it's just what fame does to people, especially at a young age."

According to the source, its clear Nick Jonas has been bubbling up to this point with the pressure of growing up in the spotlight. Therefore, this song marks his desire to show that he is ready to tell the truth and be honest with himself and his fans about his past, present, and future.

"Different people respond in different ways - some do drugs and act out, but his response was to conform to what he thought people wanted him to be. Remember, he was a 13 year-old kid when he became famous. For example: He thought that when he slept in a hotel room on tour, people would talk s - - t about him if he didn't make his own bed. So he made it," the source lamented.

The anonymous Page Six source continued, "He feels free now for the first time in his life. He's making music he believes in. He's done apologizing for everything and trying to be perfect. He's just going to be himself; if people like him, great, if not, he's done giving a s - - t."

This brave new Nick Jonas song comes less than a year after the ill-fated Jonas Brothers reunion. While the trio released two songs and planned a mega-tour, the plan never quite took off and they called it quits only a couple months into their album preparation. In interviews, the brothers focused on their plans to split off in their own directions to hone their individual careers. A year later, Nick is back with "Chains," and if the tune is a foreshadowing of what's to come then it is sure to be a huge comeback.

The music video, rumored to be starring Dylan Penn, is expected to be a departure from the pure image of Nick's yesteryear as a JoBro. The racy video, expected to premiere soon, will likely depict a more mature Nick.

What else has Nick been up to? You can catch him in the film "Careful What You Wish For" and the mixed martial arts television drama "Kingdom," as well as on Instagram and Twitter proudly showing off his new buffed body.

Stay tuned for more music news from Nick in the coming weeks, as more is revealed about his exciting solo record!
