SM Entertainment Releases Teaser For New Girl Group; f(x) Fans Express Anger

SM released the teaser for “Happiness,” the upcoming release for their new group, Red Velvet. The video features a trippy, psychedelic concept which is reminiscent of J-Pop artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

The song and the concept are catchy, but many fans of f(x) are not thrilled to see a new girl group launched.

Red Velvet would follow f(x) as the latest girl group for SM Entertainment.

Red Velvet is made up of S.M. Rookies Irene, Seulgi, and Wendy. Seulgi, Irene, and Wendy have demonstrated their talent through dance clips, introductory clips, and their participation on K-Drama original soundtracks.

The fourth member is Joy, whose information should be shortly revealed and is included in the marquee of names above the girls in the video.

The debut date of Red Velvet has yet to be announced but SM has launched a website that will enable fans to keep up with the group.

Many f(x) fans are not happy about the timing of the debut of Red Velvet.

The 2013 f(x) release “Pink Tape,” was critically acclaimed, but many fans of the group questioned why f(x) did not receive the same level of promotional attention that was provided to EXO for the “XOXO” release. Audiences were enthusiastic about the release of “Red Light,” due to the fact that the release would provide a chance for f(x) to receive their time in the spotlight.

Last week, SM Entertainment announced that f(x) would no longer be promoting “Red Light,” due to the fact that f(x) member Sulli would be taking a hiatus from the entertainment industry.

To many fans of f(x), the launch of Red Velvet at this time, seems inappropriate.

Some of the strongest comments on the YouTube stream included “I want fx, I do not want Red Velvet!” Other commenters strongly expressed their desire for f(x) to leave SM Entertainment.

SM is also currently promoting the latest solo release from Super Junior-M member Henry and has announced that SHINee’s Taemin has a solo release in the works.

What are your thoughts on Red Velvet? Is it too soon for a new girl group to debut on SM Entertainment, following the recent developments with f(x)?
