Paul George Injury: All-Star Expected To Miss Entire 2014-15 Season After 'Gruesome' Leg Injury, Source Says This Could Be The End Of NBA All Stars Joining International Events

No one expected Paul George to suffer an injury this serious, especially with the FIBA World Cup taking place in Spain late this month, and the upcoming 2014-15 NBA season beginning three months from now.

During the fourth quarter of a Team USA scrimmage in Las Vegas, George tried to block the layup of James Harden on the break. The Pacers star failed to regain balance and smashed his leg on the basket stanchion which is argued to be closer to the baseline compared to basket stanchions in the NBA.

George broke his fibia and tibula bones, and in a short clip showed in Vine, the player's right leg was clearly misaligned after it hit the stanchion.

Paramedics immediately rushed to the scene and carried George out of the Thomas and Mack Center in a stretcher.

A report from Bleacher Report later provided updates about George's injury and said that the surgery for Paul's broken leg has been successful.

In the report, doctors also mentioned that George may need to wait for at least 3 months before he puts weight on his leg, and another 3 to 6 months for rehabilitation and therapy. That means we may not see George play for Indiana this upcoming season.

George's injury is certainly a huge blow for Team USA which almost certainly would pick him as a starter for the team. The Pacers will also suffer as they already lost a good scorer in Lance Stephenson in free agency, and then George in this leg injury.

In fact, George's injury could be the beginning of the end for NBA stars to participate in international competitions. In a report team owners GMs are united that the injury could greatly affect the participation of NBA stars in these sporting events.

"Game-changer", a GM told Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports.
