Kevin Durant: Under Armour Offers $ 320 Million Contract To KD! 'Very Close' To Prying Away NBA Most Valuable Player From Nike! Will A Homecoming To Washington Be Next?

While Kevin Durant may not be a free agent this year as a player, he is a free agent as a shoe endorser. His seven-year contract with shoe titan Nike expired recently, and now he has an offer worth almost 5 times his team's salary cap!

Under Armour, a Maryland based shoe company is going all out it in efforts to arrange their own 'homecoming' for Kevin Durant. The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player hails from Suitland, Maryland just outside Washington , DC.

Most of the information comes from Twitter, but the details of the deal were spilled by the NY Daily News:

"According to a person familiar with negotiations, Durant, whose seven-year, $60 million deal with Nike is expiring, could earn as much as $30 million annually if he signs with Under Armour Inc., whose headquarters are in Durant's home state of Maryland.

Nike and Adidas are also in talks with Durant, whose combination of brilliance on the court and marketability in the aftermath of his emotional MVP speech has made him the darling of Madison Avenue."

The report also insinuates that changing shoe sponsors to a brand from his roots may be a precursor to his eventual transfer to his hometown team, the Washington Wizards. But that is still two years away.

ESPN also talked with Kevin Durant. The offer is staggering, but the KD says it's not an easy decision to make:

"Nike has been a part of me ever since I was in high school and have been great since I've been in the league but I'm just going to let my team be the ones who handle that behind the scenes, I guess. When you look at stuff like that, it's great problems to have because people want you for what you know and do on the basketball court, the work you put in, so I'm going to continue to put my work in, let them focus on that on the other end, and we'll come together at some point."

Kevin Durant switched agents and is now a part of Roc Nation Sports which is owned my music mogul Jay Z.

An ominous tweet on the issue has Nike all but waving the white flag:
