This is a follow up piece to the article about 5 K-Pop Boy Band Rivalries from a few days ago.

S.E.S & Fin.K.L- Just like H.O.T and Sechskies were the biggest rivals back in the day, SM Entertainment’s girl group S.E.S and DSP Media’s Fin.K.l (which included Lee Hyori) battled it out. While the fans cheered on their idols and declared that their favorite girl group was the best, Fin.K.L and S.E.S claimed that there was no rivalry between the two groups. Fin.K.L did better awards-wise at the end of the day, but S.E.S is recognized as being K-Pop’s first girl group success.

Kara & Wonder Girls- Between “Mister” and “Tell Me,” the two girl groups reigned in the late 2000’s, and several of the members are still active today. When both groups were releasing hit after hit, they went neck and neck and drew a lot of comparisons, due to the fact that both the Wonder Girls and Kara had five members and produced catchy dance tracks.

2NE1 & 4Minute – Not the rivalry that you were thinking of? When 4MINUTE and 2NE1 debuted within a few weeks of each other in 2009,with urban concepts that were different than the sweet and/or sexy concepts that most girl groups had at the time, it seemed like they would be battling it out forever. However, 2NE1 has surpassed 4MINUTE to become leaders of the Hallyu wave; 4MINUTE is still extremely successful and has been able to keep up with 2NE1 to some degree.

Girls’ Generation & 2NE1- While repeat rivalries may seem unlikely, 2NE1 debuted as a rival of 4MINUTE, but quickly was able to battle it out with the current queens of K-Pop, Girls’ Generation. The two girl groups are constantly pitted against one another, with fans being extremely dedicated to one group over the other. Even though they’re rivals, the two groups have been known to praise one another.

Girl’s Day & APink: Based on the fact that Girl’s Day and APink have completely different concepts, one being extremely sexy and the other consistently promoting with an innocent concept, it seems unlikely that they’d be considered rivals. However, they debuted within a year of one another and have each gained much acclaim and won many awards.
