Will A-PINK Become The Next Japan Hallyu Star After Girls' Generation-KARA?

For the past several years, K-pop girl groups such as Girls' Generation and KARA have been dominating music charts in Japan.

It seems that A-PINK is following the footsteps of their fellow colleagues as they continue to get explosive reactions with their recent debut in Japan.

As news of A-PINK's debut in Japan surfaced, local media has kept busy tracking the members' every move. The idol group's recent showcase brought in over 53,000 fans, although only 2,000 were able to watch A-PINK live.

The six-member group will officially be releasing their album in Japan on October 22. Despite its impending release date, the album has already topped the Tower Record Pre-Order Chart.

"A-PINK is focused on a concept that is different from the ongoing 'sexy' trend. The members have been able to stand out more and gain more attention from Japanese fans by setting themselves apart with a more 'cute, girly' concept," stated a Japanese official.

Japanese media has already reportedly noted that A-PINK is one the handful of K-pop groups that have a higher chance of succeeding in Japan because they've chosen to stray from sultry dance moves and sexy teaser images. Although the "sexy concept" has worked for many idol girl groups in Korea, "cute and feminine" has worked best for fans in Japan and does much better in the Japanese market.

A-PINK decided to make their debut in Japan due to their growing fan base in the country.

"We have received consistent offers to start work in Japan and finally decided to take the challenge," the girls' management agency, A Cube Entertainment, stated, according to the publication Chosunilbo.

A-PINK held their first solo showcase in Japan on August 4 and announced that they will be debuting with their Korean single "No No No." The members will be making their entry into the Japanese music industry via Universal Music, one of the biggest record labels in Japan.

"'No No No' is one of the songs that we always choose as one of our biggest favorites, and we thought that it would be very meaningful to make our Japanese debut with the song," A-PINK's Nam Joo stated during the showcase, according to Yahoo Entertainment Singapore.
