Rafael Nadal won’t be defending his champion title at U.S. Open 2014! The most recent update from Rafael Nadal’s wrist injury isn’t what a lot of his fans wanted to hear. By missing out U.S. Open 2014, the Spaniard is definitely putting his world ranking in jeopardy. But on the bright side, he will be able to smooth over any break up tension with his girlfriend Maria ‘Xisca’ Francisca Perello.

He posted on Facebook on Monday morning that he will not be able to participate in U.S. Open 2014.

“I am very sorry to announce I won’t be able to play at this year’s US Open,” Rafael Nadal confessed, “a tournament on which I’ve played 3 consecutive finals in my last participations. I am sure you understand that it is a very tough moment for me since it is a tournament I love and where I have great memories from fans, the night matches, so many things… Not much more I can do right now, other than accept the situation and, as always in my case, work hard in order to be able to compete at the highest level once I am back.”

Wrist injury has haunted the world number two for several years and has stopped him from being able to maintain top world ranking. Right now, Novak Djokovic the winner of Wimbledon 2014 is world number one with the Spaniard trailing behind him. Roger Federer, the winner of Cincinnati Masters is number three.

Maybe Rafa will take time recovering from his wrist injury to smooth things over with his long-time girlfriend Maria “Xisca” Francesca Perello. Although he and his girlfriend have attended a wedding together in Formentera this summer, the rumor has it that they couldn’t quite rekindle their romance. The break up rumors have been rampant on social media, but Rafael Nadal and Maria “Xisca” Francisca Perello haven’t announced anything.

The Spanish couple is notorious for keeping their private lives hidden from the public eye.
