Siwon Promotes ALS Awareness By Doing The Ice Bucket Challenge

The "Ice Bucket Challenge," a pass-it-foward type dare where people get publicly called out to pour ice over themselves, or else have to donate to an ALS charity. Most people end up doing the challenge as well as donating to an organization.

It has become very popular in the United States, with many celebrities, including Oprah, Justin Bieber, and Robert Downey Jr. partaking in it, and the Challenge has now reached South Korea.

The singer Tim became the first Korean celebrity to do the challenge, and he challenged Sean, Fly To The Sky's Brian, and Super Junior's Siwon. Sean took up the challenge and promptly challenged several people including Big Bang's G-Dragon and Jo In Sung.

Siwon tweeted to Tim, "Of course ^^ Just wait a bit Hyung," and posted a picture of Park Seungil, a Korean athlete who developed ALS.

ALS, also called Lou Gehrig's Disease, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement.

Siwon tweeted to fans, who met him in front of a restaurant in Hong Kong, and performed the task.

He then challenged Super Junior's Donghae and Eunhyuk to be the next to step up and raise ALS awareness, either by pouring ice water on themselves or by donating. As the "Ice Bucket Challenge" is meant to keep on going, it seems likely that there will be several idols joining in on the action in the near future.

It is unclear whether any of the other idols have yet to respond to the challenge, but they only have 24 hours to respond so it will be interesting to see Korean social media for the next few days if idols and actors continue to call one another out.
