Keanu Reeves To Star In, Produce First TV Series ‘Rain’: ‘The Matrix’ Actor To Play Assassin Anti-Hero

Looks like there's a new anti-hero coming to TV. "Matrix" star Keanu Reeves will reportedly star in and produce in "Rain," a television thriller based on a book series by Barry Eisler.

This will be the first time that Reeves has ventured in to television. The actor, who has created a career out of starring in action/adventure films, will take on the title role of John Rain, a half-Japanese, half-American freelance assassin who specializes in making his victims appear as if they've died of natural causes.

The character, a Vietnam-war vet and martial artist will likely be a brooding bad boy, a type that has become extremely popular on television as of late.

According to Wikipedia, Rain's two passions are single malt whiskies and jazz. Don Draper anyone?

The production company behind "Rain," Slingshot Global Media, announced the new project in an exclusive statement to Deadline.

"We are extremely excited to be working on a beloved property with such a talented and hard-working actor as Keanu," said David Ellender, former CEO of FremantleMedia and head of Slingshot. "This series will be the launch pad for the company and highlight our talent-focused, quality-based approach within the ever-changing and expanding television space."

According to Deadline, Slingshot partnered with Reeves in this collaboration because the actor has been a fan of the John Rain book series for some time.

In his own statement, Reeves affirmed, "As a huge fan of Barry's work, I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his iconic character and incredible world to life."

"I'm looking forward to partnering with Slingshot on my first series," the actor continued, "and reteaming with Chad and David."

Reeves will executive produce the project alongside Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, the team that directed Reeves' upcoming feature "John Wick."

Reeves also made his directorial debut recently with the film "Man Of Tai Chi."
