K-Pop Rewind: COOL 'Aloha'

Co-ed group COOL has provided the soundtrack for summer in Korea, since 1994. The song “Aloha” is one of the most popular releases from the group. While COOL became famous for their summer releases, “Aloha” was part of their 2001 winter album “First Whisper.”

COOL debuted in 1994 with rapper Kim Sung Soo, leading male vocalist Lee Jae Hoon, and female vocalist Yoo Chae Young. Before the second album was released, Yoo Chae Young was replaced by Yuri.

COOL has released seventeen albums including “half albums.” English links to their music and information have not been well organized, with last.fm maintaining the best documentation of the group.

The summery sounds of COOL were also celebrated on the August 24, 2013 episode of the KBS program “Immortal Songs 2.”

COOL is considered one of the longest on-going co-ed K-Pop dance groups. Although, the group announced a break up in 2005, they returned in 2008 to release what is considered their ten and a half album (10.5) “Cool Returns.”

As a legendary trio which has provided the sound of summer for years, COOL is an appropriate way to mark the end of warm weather and to usher in the fall.
