Chris Brown Pleads Guilty In DC Assault Case: ‘Loyal’ Singer Sentenced To Time Served, Will Now Focus On Release Of New Album ‘X’

Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to simple assault on Tuesday for an incident that occurred at the W hotel in Washington D.C. last year. The R&B singer was sentenced to time served.

With no jail time on the horizon, Brown will now focus on the upcoming release of his new album, "X."

Brown initially pleaded not guilty in the case but after delays in the court proceedings, the music star changed his plea.

The incident occurred last October when Brown was in Washington D.C. for a concert. The singer was accused of punching Parker Adams outside of the W Hotel when Adams tried to jump into a picture with the singer and two female fans.

The charges brought against Brown affected his probation for 2009 case in California, in which the singer was accused of attacking his then-girlfriend Rihanna just before the Grammys.

Due to the probation violation, Brown was forced to serve 131 days in jail. He was released in June.

The "Loyal" crooner's defense attorney, Danny Onorato, insisted that his client had already paid for his offenses in both assault cases.

"To say that he's been punished severely in this matter is an understatement," said Onorato. According to ABC News, the lawyer added that Brown's career has been on hold since the October incident and that his client wanted to take responsibility for his actions so that he could resume work and focus on touring in support of his new album.

"I would like to say to the court that I'm sorry," Brown told the court.

After the judge ruled that Brown would not have to serve additional jail time, the singer quietly excited the courtroom and was met with a swarm of photographers and fans. He gave no further comment.

Brown did take to Twitter, however, simply posting, "#XTheAlbum."
