In April 2015, filmmaker Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Trilogy will be accompanied by live musical performances of Howard Shore's film score at New York's famous Lincoln Center. This is the first time Shore's score will be performed live in accompaniment, and the honor is going to the 21^st Century Symphony Orchestra and Chorus of Lucerne, Switzerland, which Ludwig Wicki as its conductor. 

The Verge reports that the trilogy will be projected on huge screens set above 250 musicians, and that it will be shown and performed a total of two times. One film out of the trilogy will be shown at 7:30pm each evening from Wednesday April 8^th through Friday April 10^th. On Saturday the 11^th, The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers will be shown together, and on Sunday April 12^th the showing of The Return of the King will be the last performance of the event.

The trilogy has been shown before with live accompaniment, but never in the United States. It was first presented with an orchestra in Lucerne, Switzerland in 2011. The New York Times reports that the first two films of the trilogy were also shown individually in concert format at Radio City Music Hall in 2009 and 2010.

The 21^st Century Symphony Orchestra and Chorus has added Howard Shore's magnificent score to a number of their achievements, and was the accompanying orchestra for the trilogy in Lucerne in 2011. They are also well known for their live work with films. Rolling Stone reports that, in the past, they have also played along selected Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Trek movies, as well as Disney's Fantasia and West Side Story.

Tickets for the performances are on sale now, and start at $59 each per screening. There are also Trilogy packages, including the $240 "Hobbit Package" and the $400 "VIP Gondor Package." Tickets are predicted to sell out quickly.
