Male birth control without condoms is coming. Vasalgel is set to be available by 2017.

While the pill is the most common choice for women, male birth control will come in gel form.

According to The Daily Beast, Vasalgel is a "reversible, non-hormonal polymer that blocks the vas deferens."

The reversible gel reportedly acts the same way a vasectomy would, minus the cutting. It works by blocking the vas deferens, or the area of the penis that transports sperm. But unlike undergoing a vasectomy, which is permanent, having a Vasalgel injection will only temporarily block the sperms and can be reversed months or years later, depending on the person's prerogative. The procedure can be reversed by getting a second injection that unclogs the blockage and lets the sperm flow as they normally do.

Parsemus Foundation - a non-profit organization working on "low-cost medical solutions" and the group testing out Vasalgel - said in a press release that the testing they have been doing with baboons are proving to be effective. The baboons have reportedly had Vasalgel for 6 months and were given a chance to mate to test whether or not the gel works.

"Each of the three male baboons was moved into enclosures with 10-15 females ... a month ago. And the good news? So far no pregnancies," said the press release.

The male baboons will reportedly stay with the females for another week to make sure that the gel, indeed, worked. And then they will move on to test if the gel can be flushed out and the baboons can produce sperm again.

Human testing is scheduled to start in 2016. And the male birth control is eyed to be available in the market in 2017 and "shouldn't cost more than a flat-screen TV."

While the male birth control is a medical break through, it would be beneficial to note that Vasagel will not protect a male from acquiring sexually transmitted infections.
