Roger Goodell Press Conference: Called 'A Horrible Response,' Viewers Agree 'Roger Goodell Needs To Step Down And Move On' [PHOTO]

The New York Daily News reports that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell apologized this past Friday in a press conference concerning the way in which the league has handled recent domestic violence and abuse cases. During the press conference, Goodell apologized specifically for letting down the NFL and for not cracking down on football players like Ray Rice. Nonetheless, many viewers found his apology to be very hollow.

Former Patriots linebacker and current ESPN analyst Tedy Bruschi stated, "As long as Roger Goodell is leading the NFL and he's the face behind the shield, you will have the same emotions you had today watching this press conference. Listening to him speak in circles, wondering, 'Man, what is this guy talking about?'" He commented further, "Roger Goodell needs to step down and move on."

Women's advocacy groups weren't quiet in their response, either. Raquel Singh, executive director of Voices of Women Organizing Project, commented, "It's a horrible response...the NFL has essentially re-victimized the victims by trying to smooth it over and not expressly giving their apologies to the victims...It's just getting worse and worse in their handling of it and understanding the cycles of violence," conveying her anger and disappointment towards Goodell's underwhelming apology.

Many current and past football players even thought Goodell was dancing around the subject of his mishandling. Chris Kluwe, a former Minnesota Vikings punter, tweeted that Goodell's conference was "a big ol steaming pile of 'don't blame me, we're changing things." Current Baltimore receiver Torrey Smith tweeted, "What Roger just said is the exact same thing that players say when they make a mistake and plead their case."

Roger Goodell has told the public that he has never considered resigning in the past several weeks. He has promised that the NFL will "implement new conduct policies" for both players and owners that will be in place by the time the Super Bowl kicks off on February 1st.
