‘My Love From Another Star’ American Remake Confirmed! Will It Be Able To Generate Same Hype Despite Lack Of Korean Culture In The New Plot?

It is confirmed that the hit K-drama "My Love from another Star" will be remade by American network ABC. The series, also known as "You Who Came from the Star" and "Man from the Stars" follows a brooding 400-year-old alien professor who meets a distressed actress - a complete opposite from his character.

"We've been prepared for the US remake of the drama since February, and we're thankful for getting this opportunity," said the show's producer Moon Bo Mi in a statement. The producer has also confirmed that HB Entertainment already started negotiating with the network as well as Sony Pictures Television.

"My Love from Another Star" features Korean celebrities Kim Soo-hyun and Jun Hi-hyun. The drama has 21 episodes which aired from December 2013 to February 2014.

Even if ABC will get rights to remake the show, Ji-eun Park, the Korean show's creator will continue to be the executive producer of the American version. Moon Bo Mi will also continue partnering with him. Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain, on the other hand, will write the American version's script.

In the Korean version, the lead stars are named Do Min Joon and Cheon Song-yi but in the upcoming version, they will be called James and Lark. ABC tags the show as an "epic supernatural love story about a world-famous actress, Lark, and her anti-social neighbor, James, who happens to be from another planet."

Despite his self-imposed rule that "he will never use his abilities to intervene in the lives of the people around him," James finds himself falling in love with Lark.

Meanwhile, no confirmation is released yet about the stars who will give life to the characters. Fans have several reactions to the upcoming American adaptation. Some think that the American version might be too different as it will not include Korean culture - a pivotal aspect in the original version.

"I'm not too sure about this. Sure, A lot of American drama series are brilliant. But that is because it's based on and revolves around American culture. My Love From Another Star is amazing because it reflects the Korean culture, the script, and the cinematography is perfect for the comedy, the romance, and the thrill. If Americans would adopt this, It would be very difficult for them to capture the essence of the story. And besides, JJH and KSH are PERFECT for the characters," wrote one fan named Macy Bautista.

Deidrea DeWitt hopes that the remake will be able to portray the same fun and innocence the Korean version had: "I like the idea of American TV picking up Korean shows. It sounds playful. American TV has gotten so boring. My hope is that American TV can capture the innocence and fun and romance that Korean shows do. Korean shows will always be better - but I want to see how this turns out!"
