As we previously reported, executive producer Matt Olmstead hinted to TVLine in a spoiler chat that Gabby and Casey are still engaged!

"When you experience loss, you take inventory of your own life," Olmstead told the publication. "Sometimes, you might accelerate the process of getting married or the thing that you put off your whole life that you want to do, because it's just a very sharp reminder that nothing's guaranteed."

Because of the "sharp reminder" that life is short, Olmstead hints that Gabby's engagement to Casey is still on. However, for Gabby, the future was looking bright, both professionally and personally, but "the collapse changes that," Olmstead revealed.

The premiere, which jumps a month-and-a-half after the season 3 finale, will reveal who was killed after last season's explosive events.

"There are some injuries involved that affect people in terms of their ability to do their jobs," Olmstead said. "It definitely shakes up the firehouse."

Meanwhile, Mills will uncover secrets about his father's side of the family "that aren't necessarily what he had hoped to discover," Olmstead teased.

"Chicago Fire" season 3, episode 1 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 10pm on NBC.

The premiere episode is titled "Always," and the synopsis reads: "Boden pulls his team together in the aftermath of the explosion; Casey works to track down Severide."
