Saturday Night Live News: Kenan Thompson Set To Leave SNL After The Current Season; Is A Mass Exodus Happening?

Latest Saturday Night Live news revealed that the show is losing another longtime personality.

In a report by Sheknows.com, Kenan Thompson, who has been on SNL since 2003, will be leaving the show after the current season. He is the most tenured African-American performer in the history of the show. According to sources, Thompson will be departing on good terms and transferring to Los Angeles with his family to discuss details about a new show.

According to an SNL spokesperson, talks of Thompson leaving the show were inaccurate. The spokesperson added that the season has not even started yet and cast decisions are only made at the end of the season.

TMZ provided an update to their Saturday Night Live news report that, "This is not an SNL decision - it's Kenan's decision, and we know he already made it."

Sources of TMZ said that Thompson already intended to leave after the previous season ended but Lorne Michaels, SNL's creator, convinced the actor to stay for one more run. Thompson has been a huge asset on the show and fans will definitely miss his celebrity impressions. Some of his best bits are "What Up With That" and "Getting Freaky with Cee-Lo Green". In a report by The Huffington Post, Kenan joked, "I'm never leaving" when asked during an EW interview whether he was considering leaving SNL.

According to Saturday Night Live news, the show has been experiencing a major exodus of cast members in the past two seasons. Some of SNL's losses included Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Kristin Wiig. Currently, the sketch comedy show has a lot of rookies. After Thompson moves out, Michaels will have to depend on Kate McKinnon and Taran Killam to carry on. McKinnon actually does great impersonations of Justin Bieber and Ellen Degeneres.

SNL is currently preparing for its 41st season.
