Star Citizen Game Becomes A Guinness World Record Holder For Largest Crowdfunded Project Ever!

Star Citizen is an upcoming space trading and combat simulator video game developed byCloud Imperium Games for both Microsoft Windows and Linux platform. From the moment Star Citizen's Kickstarter was released, it seemed destined to make a place in the record books. The game within a few days, past its 6 million goal and after a few months, it was pushing $30 million. The game has achieved so much capital from crowdfunding that it broke a record.

The game has earned a place in the Guinness World Record as the largest crowdfunded project ever said, Chris Roberts, a video game designer and programmer known for creating the popular Wing Commander series and developer of Star Citizen. It has become a record holder not as crowdfunded game, but project.

Chris Roberts made an announcement In conjunction with the game's current crowdfunding milestone of $55 million. Since Star Citizen's funding continues to roll in, the project record is estimated to only grow, although funding has noticeably slowed recently but its still earning around $1 million every month.

Even before Guinness officially announced it, Star Citizen was already number 1 as far as crowdfunding is concerned. A publishing platform, Ethereum is the next closest crowdfunding project at $18 million. Other eminent projects in the crowdfunding Hall of Fame include the Elite: Dangerous ($2 million), the Ouya console ($8 million) and Pebble watch ($10 million), however, none of them came even close to the figure Star Citizen continues to improve on.

Roberts revealed that he intends to re-invest every single penny earned from the crowdfunding campaign back into the game's development. The money, according to Roberts, is not the profit but its gamer's investment in the project that they want to see get better and better.  Roberts realize that many might look at this as an acceptance that the game will never be finished; however, he differs in his views. On the contrary, Roberts believes that the Arena Commander model is a confirmation that Star Citizen is already starting to come together.

Besides announcing the Guinness World Record, Roberts also disclosed that an Arena Commander patch that delivers two brand-new guns to gamers who backed before the $54 million milestone is on the way. As far as those who want to consider backing are concerned, there is a new stretch goal to look forward to as Cloud Imperium Games and Roberts disclose wave four of ship voting is on the way.
