Jessica Chastain Says In Interview With Mindy Kaling She Was ‘Petrified’ To Break Character In Christopher Nolan’s ‘Interstellar’, ‘Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby’ Actress Stunning In New Photoshoot

Jessica Chastain, who has three films coming this year that may gain her more Oscar nominations, was recently very open in an interview with Mindy Kaling ("The Mindy Project). The interview, which is apart of the October issue of Interview Magazine, also features some stunning photos of the "A Most Violent Year" actress, who will also grace the cover.

Mindy Kaling, who met Chastain at seemingly terribly party a few years back, expressed how impressive Chastain is in scenes with James McAvoy in "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby." Chastain attributed that to her ability to break character with McAvoy, and also how that doesn't work for every role.

"James has so much lightness and love around him that, even when we were working on the difficult, sad scenes, between takes we had a feeling of celebrating life. But then, I've never had [that happen] with Chris Nolan, thank God, because I would be so petrified," she said.

Jessica Chastain however did seem to enjoy working with Nolan on his upcoming space epic "Interstellar" as she went on to comment on his British humor.

"Chris Nolan's kind of like that too. A lot of the English humor is so dry that it catches you completely off guard and then knocks you over with how funny it is."

Sadly the "Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby" actress had little to reveal about plot spoilers, but she did go on to riff on some of the people she admires like Michael Caine, and also some of her strategies for acting, including intense focus and not blinking during "Tree of Life" sequences.

To round off the interview, Jessica Chastain talked about the privilege of crying in society for men versus women, and how she wishes people would not see her empathy as weakness.

"It's just that I'm not a weak person. I try to connect with people. And so if someone around me is suffering, I'm going to feel it. I'm going to take it in and have compassion for them. Yes, maybe I will cry along with them, but not out of weakness. It's out of empathy."

Overall, the interview reveals the many facets of Jessica Chastain, which more than likely contribute to her critically acclaimed performances. Although she may not have taken home the Oscar for "Zero Dark Thirty," perhaps this year will be her Academy Award winning year. Fans can check out the photos from Interview Magazine below.
