Rafael Nadal Injury Initiates Roger Federer Comeback: Spaniard Topples In Beijing, Swiss Poised To Collect ATP Ranking Points To Reclaim World Number 2

Rafael Nadal is about to lose his world number 2 APT ranking due to his injury! Due to his subpar performance in Beijing, the Spaniard made it possible for Roger Federer to have another shot at his comeback. The former world number 1 is ready to collect 1000 ATP ranking points to reclaim the top 2 ranking.

Having sustained a wrist injury during his practice, Rafael Nadal missed out on the US Open 2014, Rogers Cup and Davis Cup this year. While taking time off to take care of one’s injury is paramount in tennis, this means that the other competitors have been climbing the ATP ranking in his absence.

While Novak Djokovic will probably end the season in world number 1 position, world number 2 is more open for debate. Having missed out on so many ATP tournaments this year, Rafael Nadal wasn’t able to widen the gap between him and Roger Federer. Instead, the former world number 1 was able to close in on the ATP ranking points.

According to NDTV Sports, if things go badly for the Spaniard and well for the Swiss, Roger Federer could be on a road to comeback this fall. Because Rafael Nadal flunked out at Beijing quarterfinals, Roger Federer “Federer will have a good chance to be world No. 2 next week”.

“Nadal is facing tough times after recently returning from an injury layoff due to which he could not even defend his 2013 US Open title, losing a crucial 2000 ranking points in the process,” NDTV Sports reported.

Do you think Federer will take this comeback opportunity and close in on the ATP ranking points gap? Let me know in the comments below!
