Former EXO Member Kris Reportedly Preparing To Sign Contract With Chinese Media Company Hwai Brothers

Former EXO member Kris (Wu Yifan) is reportedly preparing to sign a contract with a Chinese media company, according to Korean sources.

The K-Pop Herald, the Korea Herald's K-Pop website, reported on October 7, that Kris is on the verge of signing a contract with Hwai Brothers. It was previously reported that Kris would likely sign with a different management company, YUEHUA, but the two parties have failed to strike a deal.

Kris left SM Entertainment and its megagroup EXO in May 2014, after filing a lawsuit to break his contract with the Korean entertainment company. He claimed exploitation and unfairness. The case has yet to be settled between Kris and SM Entertainment, but the two sides have met for mediation and failed to make amends. The parties are now headed to court.

YUEHUA represents another former SM Entertainment artist, Hangeng, who left boy band Super Junior in 2009. The Korea Herald said that Kris' mother had allegedly reached out to YUEHUA, and that as a result many media outlets believed Kris would be signing with YUEHUA.

StarHaus Entertainment China, the Chinese branch of StarHaus Entertainment, announced a collaboration with Hwai Brothers in early 2014. StarHaus Entertainment manages Lee Min Ho and several other actors, and Lee Min Ho's Chinese activities are coordinated by the two companies.

Hwai Brothers is one of China's 500 largest companies, and one of the few privately owned entertainment companies in China.

Even prior to signing with an agency, Kris has already begun Chinese activities. He released a song, "Time Boils The Rain," for the soundtrack to the film Tine Times 3. Kris has also is signed on for roles in the film Xiao You Qiao Mu, directed by Korean filmmaker Jo Jin-Kyoo as well as the film Somewhere Only We Know by Chinese director Xu Jinglei.
