It sounds like Mariah Carey is single and ready to mingle - according to US Magazine, Carey has asked rapper Nas to play matchmaker in the wake of her split from her ex-husband Nick Cannon in August.

An insider divulged that Carey recently "texted Nas, wondering if he had any friends she could go out with - or even just hook up with... but Nas is nervous to introduce her to anyone," revealing the nature of the request.

According to the Daily Mail, Carey and the 41-year-old rapper are close friends. Nas, whose real name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, collaborated with Carey on the song "Dedicated" from her album "Me. I am Mariah... The Elusive Chanteuse."

In fact, the two were so close that there were whispers of Carey and Nas having an affair. However, when asked about the rumor in an interview with Howard Stern, Carey's then-husband Nick Cannon laughed it off. Cannon stated, "Nas is a friend of mine, he's a friend of hers. She went to his birthday party, and I think it was in L.A... We actually talked about this before. It'd be very difficult to make me jealous," conveying his confidence in Carey's loyalty at the time.

Since his split with Carey, Cannon has found his own wingman in his friend Randy Jackson. US Magazine reports that Cannon and the former "American Idol" judge were spotted dining with an unidentified blonde at Beverly Hills hotspot Matsuhisa in late September. A witness revealed that after Jackson left the scene, Cannon and the blonde woman continued to chat and were laughing a lot together. Supposedly, Cannon "had a big smile on his face."

Carey and Cannon have not yet filed for divorce, but so far it looks like the two have no plans of reconciling. Hollywood Take reports that Cannon covered up his Mariah Carey back tattoo this week with new ink of an apparent crucifixion - perhaps that's why Carey is publicly putting herself back on the market.
