K-Pop Crossover: Why Japanese Pop Group Cheeky Parade Love The Music Of Their Neighboring Nation [EXCLUSIVE]

J-pop girl group Cheeky Parade are an enthusiastic bunch.

Renowned for their energetic live show, the nine members, initially discovered in a dance class, look like they can't wait to get onstage.

On a trip to New York City last week for appearances at Comic-Con 2014 as well as the CBGB Music & Film Festival, KpopStarz caught up with Cheeky Parade to hear their thoughts on Hallyu culture in an exclusive interview.

Band member Asami Watanabi, the dance leader of the group, pays particularly close attention to K-pop choreography.

"We study their videos," Asami said.  "The dancing in K-pop, the expression, is very free. We don't try to follow any [specific] types of moves but we try to express the same feeling on the stage. That is the common thing."

The 20-year-old J-pop star singles out Girls' Generation as her favorite K-pop group.

"I heard them through their videos in Japan. I can sing every single song. I know every word," Asami said.

When asked if there were any Korean pop artists the group would like to work with, Yūna Sekine jumps out of her chair so enthusiastically the whole room cracks up.

"I love F.T. Island. I would love to work with them," Yūna  said.
