M.I.B & 4TEN's Energetic Performances At The NYC Chuseok Festival Wow The Crowd

The New York City Chuseok Festival on October 12 was a traditional event, bringing together the New York Korean community and customary aspects of Korean culture, like traditional pansori music and traditional art. The event also featured two non-traditional K-Pop groups, M.I.B and 4TEN.

The two idol groups performed on the second day of the festival, offering something new for the crowd, which was comprised mostly of families. 4TEN, a rookie K-Pop group that is still relatively unknown to the New York community, left a lasting impression while M.I.B's K-hip-hop style had the audience bouncing with euphoria.

4TEN made its debut less than two months ago, but the four members took to the stage with a powerful performance that hardly reflected their limited experience. Hyeji and Hyejin's powerful vocals opened up the show, with skillful raps from Tem and Eujin. The four tore up the stage with several numbers, including their song "Tornado" and a cover of Nicki Minaj's "Super Bass."

Following 4TEN, a set by Korean leading lady Lee Eun Ha, helped the older members of the crowd remember their youth by singing songs from the 70's and 80's.

M.I.B then took the stage as the headline performers of the night. The four-member Korean hip-hop group wasted no time and started the performance with their rebellious electronic hip-hop song, "Chisa Bounce." The crowd responded immediately, with many fans literally bouncing in their seats.

The members took the time to introduce themselves, in both Korean and in English, fooling around in both languages as they relished the fact that they were performing in New York City. Throughout the set, the M.I.B members showed off their personalities by foregoing highly coordinated dance routines and choosing to walk freely across the stage for much of the concert. The casual nature of the performance also allowed the members to goof around in the middle of their songs to the delight of fans in the crowd.

The quartet also performed their debut song, "G.D.M (Girls. Dreams. Money)" to showcase the rapping prowess of 5Zic, Young Cream, and SIMS. Kang Nam's vocals took center stage in "Let's Talk About You," and his rising popularity was apparent from the minute he opened his mouth. M.I.B slowed the performance down with "Money In The Building," but picked things back up again to end the night with a raucous performance of "Dash (Men In Black)."

The crowd also enjoyed entertainment from comedian Kim Hak Rae, the SJ dance team, local singer Arnelle "Elly" Nonon, as well as different traditional performances throughout the day.
