‘Attack On Titan’ Cosplay Will Now Include Official 3D Maneuver Gear But Only For Those Who Can Afford It

"Attack on Titan" is now one of the most popular manga and anime series of the past decade. It is no surprise then that "Attack on Titan" cosplay continues to dominate anime related conferences, including last weekend's New York Comic Con. But only the true cosplayers have been able to complete their Scout corps outfits with home made 3D maneuver gear. However, that may soon change because japanese company MOVIC has just started pre-orders for official 3D maneuver gear, but only for those who can afford the steep price.

"A thousand bucks for this unusual deluxe item... Kuuh, I'm really starting to feel sorry for those who'll buy this," says Saku-dono in the Anime News Network forum discussing the new cosplay gear.

While some people are lucky enough to make a living from their cosplay and original costume design, they all have to start somewhere. Often that "somewhere" means making large scale purchases to make their cosplay stand out from others. In the case of "Attack on Titan," almost every person sporting Scout and Survey corps uniforms have probably purchased it from a costume store. Only the truly brave craftsmen had 3D maneuver gear to complete their outfits.

But now, according to Anime News Network, 3D maneuver gear will now be available on a mass scale. The 3D maneuver gear (pictured below) is based on the steampunk-like devices that "Attack on Titan" characters use to move around the city and successfully take down man-eating titans. The official replica (though not sure what makes it "official") weighs 22 pounds (10 Kilograms) and also has blades and arm cartridges.

But is it worth the $1,000 dollar (107,784 yen) price tag worth it?

Most fans are stating no, especially when you consider the weight and practicality of carrying the 3D maneuver gear around. Nevertheless, pre-orders are available starting today via the Movic website. There has been no announcement as to whether it will become available through a North American seller, but chances are, someone will purchase it and resell it to fans on Ebay.

Either way, $1000 still seems like a steep price to pay for "Attack on Titan" cosplay.
