On Friday, the ventilation grate near the concert stage at the Pangyo Techno Valley Festival gave way when a group of spectators rushed on top of it during K-pop girl group 4minute's performance, causing spectators to fall roughly 33 feet.

According to BBC News, 16 have been confirmed dead with 11 injured. Reportedly, most of the victims were men in their 30s and 40s, presumed to be employees from nearby office buildings as well as security guards coming to see the event after work.

Since the tragedy, 4minute's record label Cube Entertainment has released a statement addressing why the group continued to perform when the accident occurred.

"After 4minute's concert, the members and all the staff were not aware that the tragedy occurred and left the venue," said the statement according to allkpop. "It was only when they returned to Seoul that they heard the news about the accident. There is no way to express the sadness we feel. We hope that the incident today doesn't cause great damage to those who attended."
