Russell Brand Trews: Activist/Comedian Refuses To Leave Fox News HQ After Canceled Sean Hannity Interview, Threatened With Arrest

Russell Brand is never one to back down from a battle, especially with powerful Right-Wing figures. The comedian and activist almost got arrested when he took his web series, The Trews, to Fox News headquarters after Sean Hannity canceled an interview he had been scheduled to appear in. In an episode released Friday, Brand sits outside the network’s building, discussing what he sees as Islamaphobia on their talk shows. Things get heated when a security guard demands that he leave, and naturally, he does not go down without a fight.

The episode begins with Brand sitting at the edge of the building discussing the network, when a security guard interrupts. After the guard insists, “You can’t film here, this is private property,” Brand inquires, “Who’s property is it?” The guard tells Brand it belongs to building, prompting Brand to ask, “Who does the building belong to?” The guard then snaps, “It doesn’t matter,” to which Brand responds, “It does matter, I’ll just stay here then.”

The exchange escalates as the guard threatens arrest, and Brand, ignoring the warning, enters the building. He is then met by another security guard, who also tells him he can’t be there. Brand then asks, “Can I have a tour,” and after the guard refuses he approaches the receptionist’s desk, explaining, “I was booked onto Sean Hannity’s show, and then I was cancelled.” He then asks, “Can I come up, have a look around, maybe have a look at the studio, touch some stuff, maybe meet some people from the Hannity show?” The receptionist, of course, refuses. Brand then leaves after saying, “Tell Sean Hannity I came by to have a chat with him.”

Brand’s initial beef with Hannity, as well as several of his Fox New colleagues, was the framing of their reporting on Muslims. He begins the episode by pointing out a clip from Bill O’rielly’s show, in which the host poses the question, “Is Islam a destructive force in the world, ” before noting that there are about 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide. Brand’s response, “In a way, Bill helps to answer the question he’s posing. Is Islam a destructive force? Well if there’s 1.6 billion Muslims in the world, and only occasionally there are events motivated, at least superficially, by Islam, then the question answers itself doesn’t it?”
