NU'EST Reddit 'Ask Me Anything' Makes History, Sparks Debate On Asking Uncomfortable Questions

NU'EST will delight fans and make history as they host an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit, the first by any K-Pop boy band, according to Koreaboo who will partner with MyMusicTaste for the milestone event.

It will be held on the Reddit thread /r/kpop on Monday, October 20 (20:00 KST / 4:00 PST / 7:00 EST / 11:00 GMT).

The NU'EST Reddit AMA will be structured as a Q&A format live chat, says Koreaboo, and fans from all over the world are invited to post their questions to the idol group. The thread will be opened an hour earlier for fans to post questions.

But as fans prep their questions, there has been a debate whether to grill NU'EST about controversial industry questions. Some believe it is not the right venue and instead suggested to keep a lighthearted environment so NU'EST can answer candidly.

"Please, /r/kpop, I know a lot of you are really not into male groups, but you are into K-pop, and that this will seem like an excellent opportunity to ask uncomfortable questions about bull***t in the industry. Please don't do this," requests Reddit user No_Disk.

"Not only will it not do anything - even if they wanted to talk about bad things in their company/industry/culture/whatever, they'll be with their managers and nothing unacceptable will get through - it risks making them progressively less capable of answering in a fun, engaged way."

Others countered that fans should have the freedom to ask anything they want, and that more hard-hitting questions could make for a more interesting Q&A.

"Guess what? This is Reddit, and the chance of those questions being stopped is pretty much guaranteed to be nil. This is a site that prides itself on being more insufferably smug than anywhere else on the internet. So of course gotcha questions will be prevalent in an AMA. Besides, do you want insipid and dumb shipping questions? Or do you want actual content?" says THE_PASSENGER_NANANA.

The AMA is also part of the group's media promotions leading up to their European Re:SPONSE tour this November. Five concert dates in five countries have already been confirmed. Paris, France (November 22), Helsinki, Finland (November 23), Warsaw, Poland (November 27), Bucharest, Romania (November 29), and Milan, Italy (November 30).

European fans who are disappointed that NU'EST won't be coming to their country and city still have a chance to convince the group to visit. MyMusicTaste's portal is accepting votes for new concert locations and with enough votes this could add more dates and cities to the tour.

As of this posting, Moscow, Budapest, Sofia, London and Frankfurt have been leading the votes although the highest total is still 738 votes which might not be enough to secure a concert date.
