Jillian Michaels Not Comfortable in LGBT Community; `The Gay Thing Has Always Been Hard for Me’

Jillian Michaels, the former weight trainer on TV's "Biggest Loser" trainer, is less comfortable with her association with the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community than her followers have been led to believe. Michaels is not comfortable opening up in public and admits she sometimes wishes she had a "strapping football player husband."

In a recent interview with Health Magazine, Michaels discusses her sexuality. Michaels struggles with her identification as a gay woman. The trainer is in a relationship with a woman, but struggles to talk about it openly.

"I don't know that I am [comfortable talking about being gay] now, to be honest with you. The gay thing has always been hard for me. When Heidi and I are out and somebody older asks, 'Are you sisters?' I say, 'We're friends.' I guess it comes from thinking that they will be shocked or disturbed. Look, I wish I had some strapping football player husband. It would be such a dream to be 'normal' like that, but I'm just not," Michaels said.

Michaels first opened up about her sexuality in a 2010 interview with Ladies Home Journal.

"Let's just say I believe in healthy love. If I fall in love with a woman, that's awesome. If I fall in love with a man, that's awesome. As long as you fall in love... it's like organic food. I only eat healthy food, and I only want healthy love," she said at the time.

Jillian Michaels adopted a baby girl from Haiti two weeks after her life partner, Heidi Rhoades gave birth to a baby boy in 2012.
