NBA 2014 Season Predictions: Carmelo Anthony Will Score Less Under The Triangle Offense! Will That Bring The New York Knicks To The Playoffs?

The NBA 2014 Season Predictions are on full swing and the New York Knicks is one team in the middle. For the first time in his career, Carmelo Anthony missed the playoffs. What will the versatile scorer do this season-shoot more? Actually, it's the opposite.

The former NBA scoring champion will have to adjust to Phil Jackson's vaunted triangle offense although this time, it will be Derek Fisher's version since he is the head coach. Fisher used to run this offense from the floor and he got five championship rings for the effort.

Carmelo Anthony admits that the Knicks will be a different team this year-and he will become a different player.

"I don't think I'll be the scoring champ. Especially with this system, the way we're playing -- the way that it's going to be well-balanced, the style of play we're going to have, I don't think I'll have to lead the league in scoring this year."

"I think shots will be fewer, I think it will be more effective shots. So if that means taking fewer shots, then that's what's going to happen."

That's good news, since the Knicks shot selection was a big issue. However, the triangle offense does not exactly stifle scorers. Phil Jackson's teams practically locked the scoring title. Michael Jordan had 7 scoring nods under the Zen Master, Kobe Bryant won 2 and Shaquille O'Neal had one under that system.

So it's best that Melo backtracks a bit:

"But I really don't know. We've been playing preseason; it's still early. It's not until you get in the flow of the game that you start knowing the minutes you're going to play, knowing the group you're going to be out there with most of the time. Until you find that rhythm, you're not going to really understand."

"What I like so far is, throughout the game you don't have to really focus on getting me the ball or me trying to score in bunches or just coming down and throwing the ball to me and everybody just watching. Everybody will be part of the game; everybody will feel like they have something to do with the game."

Prior to his scoring title win, Melo made this same prediction. It might not be intentional, but Anthony might light up Madison Square Garden just the same. Will it lead to a playoff appearance? Most pundits think they'll catch the last ticket. How about you?
