Neil Patrick Harris Dishes On Oscar Preparations! Trying To Keep Hollywood’s Biggest Award Show Fun And Casual

Neil Patrick Harris has definitely become a master of award show hosting in the last few years.

Now that the former "How I Met Your Mother" star is prepping to host Hollywood's biggest award show, the Oscars, he is revealing how he plans to make the event particularly special.

"I'm trying to watch a bunch of past Oscar shows in sequence so I can see sort of how technology has changed, the set, the room," Harris told E! News, explaining how he is preparing for the prestigious Hollywood event.

"Keep in mind, award shows is a room filled with terribly nervous people who have been through a gauntlet of anticipation, including the red carpet, where they're constantly asked what they'll say if they win..." he added.

Harris not only knows what it's like to be onstage entertaining during award shows but has also won his fair share of statuettes, including five Primetime Emmys and a Tony Award.

And while the 41-year-old actor knows the thrill of hearing his name called as a winner at a high-profile event, he also understands what it's like to lose.

"Most of the show, it's all filled with losers. Because out of the five nominees, only one wins," said Harris. "So as the show goes on, more and more of the people are unhappy...so that's kind of the game, is to try and figure out how to be fun and casual and confident and keep it moving and keep it a good show, regardless of whether you win or lose, that you're at least enjoying yourself for the evening."

The Academy Awards is scheduled to be held on February 22, 2015.

In addition to preparing for his Oscars hosting gig, Harris recently published a lighthearted memoir entitled "Choose Your Own Autobiography."
