Voting has opened for the upcoming Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA), with few surprises in terms of leaders on the first day of voting.

Big Bang’s Taeyang demonstrated a strong start by taking the lead with 49% of the vote for Best Male Artist and 51% for Best Vocal Performance Male.

YG Entertainment’s rookie male group Winner is currently in the lead at 34% of the popular vote for Best New Artist. Their label mates Epik High are leading the Best Rap Performance category at 49% for “Happen Ending” with LeeSsang’s Gary following behind. 2NE1 are also in the lead for Best Female Group with 29% of the vote, with Girls' Generation following closely at 25%. 

EXO are showing the power of their fandom with EXO-L providing the group a lead at 32% of the vote over fellow SM Entertainment group Super Junior who has 27% of the vote in the Best Male Group category.

EXO also currently leads the Best Dance Performance Male Group category at 34% for “Overdose” with INFINITE coming up behind them at 20% for “Last Romeo.” EXO is also currently in the lead for the Union Pay Artist of the Year category with 21% of the popular vote and is leading the Union Pay Song of the Year for “Overdose” with 24% of the vote.

Ailee is currently dominating the vote for female artists. She is currently leading the Best Female Artist category at 35% of the popular vote. Ailee is also leading the Best Dance Performance Solo category for “Don’t Touch Me” and Best Vocal Performance Female for “Singing Got Better” with a significant lead at 44% over IU.

Soyou & Junggigo are leading the best collaboration category for their hit “SOME” with 43% of the vote.

CNBLUE are in the lead of the Best Band Performance category for their hit “Can’t Stop” with 51% of the vote. Their FNC Entertainment label mates FTISLAND are trailing behind with only 15% of the popular vote for “Madly.”

JYP Entertainment’s 2PM is currently leading the Best Music Video category with 29% of the vote for “Go Crazy!” Girls’ Generation sub-group Taetiseo is closely coming in second with 26% of the popular vote for their music video “Holler.”

Popular K-Drama "My Love From The Stars" is showing its presence in the original soundtrack category with Lyn taking the lead with 31% of the vote for "You Are My Destiny." Davichi are in a close second at 28% with their theme for "It's Alright, This Is Love." 

At print, 158,582 votes have been recorded for MAMA 2014. The voting continues to become diversified with Southeast Asia leading the number of voters with 56% followed by Korea, who is reflecting 27% of the votes.

Voting and tickets are open to international fans through the MAMA site. MAMA 2014 will take place in Hong Kong on December 3.
