Ipsy October 2014 Bag Review [+VIDEO]: ECRU Acacia BB Cream For Hair, Épicé Purifying Exfoliant, Figs & Rouge Hand Cream, Noyah Lipstick, NYC New York Color Big Bold Curl Mascara

My Ipsy October 2014 glam bag had its ups and downs. Read on for my reviews about my Ipsy October 2014 glam bag, which included the ECRU Acacia BB Cream For Hair, épicé Purifying Exfoliant, Figs & Rouge Hand Cream, Noyah Lipstick, and NYC New York Color Big Bold Curl Mascara.

The bag: The Ipsy October 2014 bag was a quilted, rectangular-shaped pouch with a front zipper. It came in a fun turquoise color in a shiny, acrylic material to reflect this month's theme of "Beauty Candy."

ECRU New York Acacia Protein BB Cream Beauty Balm for Hair: Though I've never heard of ECRU New York nor tried a BB cream for my hair, I was excited to try this product due to all of the natural ingredients listed on the back. After towel-drying my hair, I rubbed a dime-sized amount between my palms to "emulsify" it (per the instructions on the back). The product felt like a thin lotion but wasn't sticky or goopy. I applied the BB cream to the ends of my hair, working my way up to just lightly touching the roots. The smell blew me away - a subtle but very pleasant floral scent that made me feel like I had just come back from the spa; perhaps this is what acacia smells like! The product tamed my flyaways without weighing down any volume and even enhanced some of my natural curls. I was disappointed that this came only as a sample size. Full price: $12.00

épicé International Purifying Exfoliant: This exfoliant boasts hydrating properties while also removing dirt and dead skin cells and activating collagen production, boosting skin renewal and anti-aging benefits. I have very sensitive skin and wouldn't use a harsh exfoliant, so I was excited to try this non-irritating formula with anti-bacterial cleansers. I found the texture of the exfoliant very smooth with micro-fine scrubbers that felt gentle but cleansing on my skin. After rubbing it onto my face and leaving it on for a few minutes in the shower while I washed my hair, I rinsed the product off and found my face feeling fresh, clean, smooth, and bright. However, that night I broke out a bit on my chin. I'm not sure if it's a direct correlation to this product, but I was hoping it would keep my skin clear rather than let acne occur! Full price: about $10 (a third of 3.3fl oz for $32)

Figs & Rouge Hand Cream in Mango Mandarin: The packaging of this hand cream is very cute and elegant and reminds me a lot of the tubes of hand cream from L'Occitane, though the cap for the Figs & Rouge tube is plastic and feels a little cheaper. I enjoyed the mango mandarin scent, though I wish it were a bit stronger with a cleaner, crisper citrus scent - this was a little too reminiscent of fruit punch. The hand cream itself is not what I'm used to. Though I will give it credit for absorbing quickly into the skin, it momentarily leaves behind a tacky feel, not at all like a thick hand cream should. This is another tiny sample size, though in this case beneficial because it will fit perfectly in a makeup bag or small purse to carry around with you. Full price: about $4 (a third of 2.7 oz for $10)

noyah Lipstick in Fall In Love With Mauve: The size of this lipstick is almost a joke. These are the lipstick samples my mother would get at Clinique when she wanted to swatch a couple shades or the free samples you receive when you buy a full-sized product. About the size of my pinky and just as skinny, the noyah lipstick is good for just a few uses. The shade is also not my style - the deep plum is trending this season but makes me look like a vampire with my skin tone. But I have to admit: the formula of this lipstick is amazing. My lips felt moisturized and smooth the whole time I was wearing it. Though the color faded after a couple of hours and needed to be reapplied, my lips continued to feel supple! Full price: about $9 (half of full size for $18)

NYC New York Color Big Bold Curl Mascara: This is a pretty standard mascara. I always like new mascara because I've heard that germs breed like crazy in those tubes and you should replace the product every couple of months - and I rarely do. However, I always stick to black waterproof mascara. Even though it's much harder to remove, there's nothing worse than smudges of black streaks on your face when encountering rain/sweat/tears. The brush of this mascara is larger than I'm used to but I like how it catches onto all the lashes. I just wish it was waterproof! Full price: $5

The total value of my October 2014 Ipsy glam bag came up to about $30, which is significantly less than my estimate from the September Ipsy bag, which valued almost $72. This month also contained more sample-sized products. My favorite products are definitely the hand lotion - due to its portability and usefulness - and the BB cream for hair because it smells amazing and really seems to keep my hair looking smooth but not weighed down.

Did you get the same products in your bag? How did it differ? What did you think of your products this month? Let me know in the comments section below!
