Daniel Radcliffe Dishes On ‘Harry Potter’ In Q&A, Says He’d Never Disown Starring As The Young Wizard In Blockbuster Franchise

Daniel Radcliffe is proud to be known as "Harry Potter."

The 25-year-old actor discussed his experience starring in the "Harry Potter" franchise during a Reddit AMA on Tuesday, Oct. 28. And Radliffe revealed that although he is excited to take on new acting roles, he would never regret becoming famous by playing "the boy who lived."

When a fan on Reddit asked the British star if he ever felt pressure in living up to the role of Harry Potter while filming the movies, Radcliffe stated that he hadn't gotten caught up in the hype.

"No, it wasn't something we thought about at the time," said Radcliffe. "I have thought about it much more lately than I probably ever did at the time... but yeah, it feels wonderful, honestly, to have people still come up to you and say you were such a huge part of my childhood. It's genuinely lovely. I am very lucky to be famous for something so many people loved. And there's... yeah, I always like to say that I think some people think that because I'm making an effort to have a career for myself after Potter, that they somehow think I want to escape Potter? And I don't, I'm very proud of what those films were, and what we did with them. And so I always like to say I am happy to hear from people who still love the movies."

The actor, who will soon star in the fantasy horror film "Horns," recalled encountering someone who rejected a previous part of his career, which Radcliffe did not appreciate.

"I remember when I met, once, a guy who'd been in a punk band in the 70's, and then he wouldn't talk about this punk days at all to me when I was asking, he sort of didn't want anything to do with it? And I remember being really disappointed by that, and thinking of how uncool it was for him to disown the thing that made him, and I just would never do that," he explained.

As for being a child star, Radcliffe admitted that there were a few downsides. However, there were perks as well.

"Um... I suppose the worst thing is that because I was a child actor, you get a lot of questions about like, you know, you get a lot of, for a while is that child actors were perceived as bratty and obnoxious, so you come up against that quite a bit," said Radcliffe, adding, "And the best thing, is, obviously, being mistaken for Elijah Wood."

When asked if he would want to be a wizard in real life like his "Harry Potter" alter ego, Radcliffe answered an emphatic yes.

"Yes, of course, absolutely, God! I think that was part of the huge success of those books, is that it taps into a set of powers and a fantasy world that literally everybody would love to be a part of," said the star in the Reddit interview. "I think I would be a fantastic one if I were really one in real life. I think I would probably be, like, one of the cool Dark Arts teachers. There weren't very many good ones, but I would be the Lupin equivalent."
