It's the first Saturday in November, and any people who may still be sporting their Sailor Moon cosplay from last night's Halloween festivities could perhaps use the excuse that episode nine of "Sailor Moon Crystal" premiered today. Today's episode was of course simulcast through Hulu, Crunchyroll and Viz Media. For those who don't have subscription service however can find links to watch the episode for free below.

Synopsis:

This episode picks up right in the action of the previous episode in which Tuxedo Mask sacrificed himself to save Sailor Moon from an attack. He passes out from the pain and witnessing the incident, Sailor Moon's strong love for him releases her memories and her true form as Princess Serenity.

After a quick flashback to the war that left Tuxedo Mask/Mamoru-chan in a similar state to now, Usagi cries at her memories and one of her tears crystallizes into the silver crystal. After this light from the crystal enters the body of Tuxedo Mask. Kunzite tries to attack again but is thwarted by the other scouts, including Sailor Venus. He does however make off with the body of Tuxedo Mask, causing another bout of tears.

The scouts head back to their headquarters and Artemis finally reveals the truth about Usagi being Princess Serenity, and about the war between the Earth and the Moon. Sailor Venus is also revealed to be the true leader of the inner scouts, who are tasked with protecting Usagi. Usagi however is not ready to be a princess, and retreats to her bedroom. She agonizes over Tuxedo Mask, until finally the girls come to comfort her. Luna suggests they visit the moon for more answers about their past and the episode ends with a declaration to travel to the moon.

Anime News Network's Gabrielle Ekens says, "This episode is an anomaly. It's completely incongruous with the level of quality that I've come to expect from ‘Sailor Moon Crystal' up to this point, and difficult to evaluate because of that." With that kind of declaration, episode nine shouldn't be missed.
