The final episode of the Excalibur arc in "Sword Art Online II" or "Sword Art Online" season two aired earlier today in Japan and was simulcast by Aniplex USA, Hulu, and Crunchyroll. Synopsis:

The episode opens with the continued fight against the King of the Giants. Kirito and the others don't do too well at first until Freyja gets Kirito to remove Thor's hammer from a pile of stolen weapons. She transforms into Thor and Kirito leads the group to an all out final attack, including Asuna, who hasn't done much sword fighting in the Alfheim arc so far.

Thor/Freyja hands the final blow to the King of the Giants, and for their work the team gets a bunch of new items. Klein in particular gets a new hammer weapon, but he's mostly saddened that Freyja no longer exists. The dungeon begins to collapse so the group makes their escape via Leafa's new animal friend Tonky.

On the way however down, Kirito decides to abandon the Excalibur in order to save the World Tree area from destruction. Recall that last week's episode revealed that the discovery could ultimately lead to the Cardinal system wiping out all of the world maps of Alfheim, thus making Kirito's actions seem noble.

But Sinon decides she wants in on it and saves the sword at the last minute with some excellent arrow and magic skills. She hands it over to Kirito on the condition he always think of her when he draws it. The world of Jotunheim is saved, and the greenery sparks the return of other fairies that bestow gifts upon the group. Kirito finally is able to equip Excalibur and the quest is cleared.

Back in the real world it's revealed that Kirito is now taking a class on mechatronics, mainly to allow Yui to see the world they inhabit. The group share a dinner to which Kirito at the last minute volunteers to cover the group's bill in the face of some jokes about being the rightful owner to Excalibur.
