Countdown to MAMA 2014: Winner & EXO Are Facing Off For Artist Of The Year

YG Entertainment’s rookie group Winner has gained ground and is closely behind SM Entertainment male group EXO for the MAMA (Mnet Asian Music Awards) 2014 Artist of the Year award. There are thirty days left until MAMA 2014 and more than 7.7 million votes have been recorded as of November 3 from K-Pop fans throughout the world.

EXO is currently in a small lead with 21.5% of the vote versus Winner who places at 21% of votes in the Unionpay Artist of the Year category. However, EXO continues to maintain a significant lead over Taeyang for Unionpay Song of the Year for “Overdose” at 24.3%. Taeyang has 14.8% of votes for “Eyes, Nose, Lips.”

In the Best Dance Performance Male Group category, EXO continues to hold down their lead. However, INFINITE has fallen behind TVXQ. EXO leads with 31.9% of the vote for “Overdose,” followed by TVXQ at 24% of the vote for “Something.” INFINITE is now in third place with 20.9% for “Last Romeo.”

EXO were the first winners of the Star Cheer Battle, which was conducted from October 27 through November 2. EXO placed first with 1.2 million votes followed by Super Junior with 950,761 votes. Winner placed third in the Star Cheer Battle with 929,421 votes. Winner is currently in first place for the Best New Artist Award with 38.1% of popular votes. JYP Entertainment’s rookie group GOT7 is closely following with 37.7% of the vote.

In the Best Male Artist category, Big Bang’s Taeyang maintains a solid lead with 41.% of the popular vote over Hallyu star Rain, who received 23.3% of the vote. Taeyang is also leading the Best Vocal Performance Male category at 41.5% for “Eyes, Nose, Lips” followed by K.Will who has received 25.5% of votes for “Day 1.”

Ailee maintains her lead in the Best Female Artist category at 28%, with IU following behind with 22.6% of the popular vote. Ailee is also leading IU at 36.8% of votes in the Best Vocal Performance Female category for “Singing Got Better.” IU follows at 24.9 for “Friday.”

Fans of Super Junior (ELFs) have rallied behind the group to establish a lead over EXO for Best Male Group. Super Junior currently leads the category with 32.8% of the popular vote with EXO coming in a close second with 31% of the vote.

2NE1 continues to command a lead against Girls’ Generation. Although, YG Entertainment issued a statement that 2NE1 would not be participating as a group in end of the year award ceremonies, their fans continue to show strong support for the group. 2NE1 currently maintains 30.4% of the popular vote, with Girls’ Generation receiving 23.8% of the vote.

missA has come from behind in the Best Dance Performance Female Group category with 29.1% for “Hush.” They are followed by SISTAR at 25.4% of the popular vote for “Touch My Body,” followed by Girls’ Day at 23.7% for their performance of “Something.”

Ailee has lost her lead in the Best Dance Performance Solo category to former Wonder Girls member Sunmi. Sunmi is now in the lead at 29.9% of the popular vote for “Full Moon” followed by Ailee with 26.3% for “Don’t Touch Me.”

SISTAR’s Soyou and Junggigo continue to move hearts with their song “SOME” which continues to lead the Best Collaboration category at 36.6% of the vote. Soyou and Junggigo are followed by LeesSang’s Gary and Jung In who are in second with 20.3% of the popular vote for their song “Your Scent.”

CNBLUE continue to maintain a lead over fellow FNC Entertainment artists FTISLAND in the Best Band Performance category. CNBLUE have 40.9% of the vote for “Can’t Stop” followed by FTISLAND with 27.3% of votes for “Madly.”

Epik High are still in the lead for Best Rap Performance for their hit “Happen Ending” with 39.8% of votes. The group is followed by Gary for his solo release “Shower Later” which has obtained 23.8% of the popular vote.

In the Youku-Tudou Best Music Video category, 2PM leads Block B. 2PM is leading with 32.7% for “Go Crazy!” followed by Block B who have 24.5% of the vote for “Jackpot.” Girls’ Generation sub-unit TaeTiSeo is currently in third place with 20.4% of votes for “Holler.”

Lyn maintains a sizable lead in the OST (original soundtrack) category at 37.1% for the hit theme “My Destiny” from “My Love From The Stars.” Lyn is followed by Davichi for the theme of “It’s Okay, That’s Love” with 24.6% of votes.

Voting remains open for MAMA 2014 until December 2, with international voting supported through the use of Facebook or Twitter IDs. Only one vote per ID is allowed and voters must place a vote in every category for the vote to count.
