How K-Pop Stars Interact With Fans Through Social Media

Nowadays many Korean celebs are all over social media, using sites like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and more to interact with their fans. The social networks give the stars a chance to keep their fans updated on upcoming projects and promotions, while also providing their followers with details of their daily lives.

K-Pop idols have many fans all around the world. While it is not always easy to connect with everyone (especially given language barriers), technology and social network sites provide a compelling avenue to share pictures and status updates.

As of late, K-Pop idols have been largely drawn to the Twitter platform. While their are similar networks (such as China's Weibo or Korea's me2day), Twitter gives idols the ability to post quick updates with the furthest global reach. Twitter allows for status updates and pictures to be shared with ease and opens direct lines of communication between the stars and their fans.

Since K-Pop groups are big with lots of members, many of them utilize official Twitter profiles for the whole group. The record label can then use it as a channel to announce upcoming projects and the individual members are able to provide updates to the whole fan base all at once. A Pink and BTS are the two groups who have opted to use a joint account rather than individual Twitter handles.

The individual members would then distinguish between themselves while making a post and it would look something like this post from A Pink member Eunji:

While social networking sites are a great way for K-Pop stars to interact with their fans, idols are increasingly cautious about what they put online. Many celebs must first get permission from their agencies before posting anything in the digital world, especially after recent social media outbursts from stars like ZE:A's Lee Hoo and Girls' Generation's Jessica.

For the most part, though, celebrities are just like the rest of us and social media gives them a chance to show off their ordinary lives and connect to friends all around the world.

While this is in no way a comprehensive list, here are some K-Pop idols and groups who are active on Twitter:
