Why Psy Can Succeed in the U.S. Market but Girls' Generation(SNSD) Can't?

"Gangnam Style" is now almost at 100 million views on YouTube and becoming the next world star.

Today, Psy is currently at 92,503,939 views, breaking the record for a Korean artist on YouTube.

It is causing a big issue because Psy did not do any other special promotions other than to simply upload his music video to YouTube. This one video allowed him to go overseas and become a world star.

This however brings up another question. How come all the other K-Pop artists who have high numbered views on YouTube did not succeed in going overseas?

Girls' Generation up until now had been number 1 for the highest number of views on YouTube for a Korean artist.

Their english song, "The Boys" did reach around 55 million views, but it did not succeed much in the states.

Other artists such as 2NE1, Big Bang and SHINee have all reached around the 40 million mark and did not go overseas.

The main difference between Psy and Girls' Generation would be the hierarchy of content consumption and regional differences.

Although Girls' Generation, Big Bang and 2NE1 have all reached high numbers, they are all mostly from different parts of Asia such as Malaysia and Indonesia.

This shows that these groups are famous internationally, but mostly in still in the Asia region.

On the other hand, Psy's "Gangnam Style," although it is in Korean, the 'horse-riding' dance move and the humor allows people to enjoy the song without needing to know Korean.

Psy's music video is gaining many views from countries other than Asia, allowing him to expand and gain more popularity.
